With global warming Iceland is losing its glaciers at a disastrous rate. Although they have more than 20 words for snow, only patches of snow are visible on mountains which were formerly covered with snow. A land forged by fire and ice is losing the latter. And with the glaciers go a cultural and societal touchstone - for without ice, Iceland “is just land.”
