Elizabeth Sher´s
artwork demonstrates a persistence of vision that emanates from its strong conceptual and formal foundation. Her film work and paintings are are allied by her consistent focus on process.

A multimedia artist for more than two decades, Elizabeth Sher began her career as a painter and printmaker at the University of California at Berkeley, receiving her MA in 1967. Although she spent much of the past twenty years immersed in film and video as a means to reach a broader audience, Sher has consistently been involved with concept and process.

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MY FILM AND ART WORK?
For me, "it" has always been about process - it´s just a matter of using different tools - the right tools for the job. I am very excited about the recent advances in digital technologies and enjoy playing with this amazing new tool. I realize that 2 decades ago I was making artwork that presaged what the computer makes even more fascinating today. Often I combine handwork with digital processes - working back and forth, scanning images in, printing them out, working on them with paint and mixed media, then scanning them again - making my aesthetic decisions as I always have, but finding new possibilities through the addition of digital tools.

Sher is a Professor of Art at California College of THE Arts (formerly CCAC) in Oakland and San Francisco where she teaches classes in computer graphics, drawing, and time based art. Her fine art prints and paintings are included in the public collections of museums and univerities and in private collections across the country.
